Catfish- David Scott

if you haven’t seen the documentary Catfish,  then you must! It is a daters nightmare and I fear has become quite popular. They even made an MTV show after it. After doing some research 1 out of 10 internet dating profiles are FAKE. This is a scary thought. Who is out there?

For the past few days, a guy named David Scott has been messaging me from a dating site. He then asked for my yahoo messenger so that he could message me there. He is 35 and pretty cute. He lost his wife in a car crash two years prior and has two children living with their grandma. He says he is a contractor and travels a lot. His biggest and most unusual job was in Dubai where he stayed for 3 months. He lives in Seattle, Washington. When i explained to him that I was only looking for a local relationship, he insisted that we just get to know each. Something about him just wasn’t right. He sent more pictures to me of him since I said there was only two. He ended every sentence with “cutie” or “beautiful” though, which to me sent red flags that he wasn’t really using it properly and maybe English was a secondary language. Another red flag is that he said he is “over” his wife that had died. You don’t just get “over” something like that. Anyway, he kept saying how I brighten his days and blah blah blah. Honestly, I thought he was more annoying than anything. He asked for my phone number to text me and I declined because I just could not put my finger on what was wrong. After our online chat last night, I did a simple search. He is from Nigeria. SAME story he told me, he tells others in different variations. Basically after months or years of stringing someone along he eventually asks for money and scams the hell out of you. These women ACTUALLY gave him money. I would NEVER, EVER do that!
It is an interesting story and my first experience with a dating scammer. It is a crazy world out there!

So glad I found your blog. The same guy was messaging me ending almost every sentence with cutie and beautiful as well. Said he moved to Seattle 2 years ago after getting divorced from his wife of 7 years. Has a 5 year old daughter who lives with her mom in New Jersey where he grew up. Has no family other than his daughter but travels to see her often.Told me he was a contractor and self employed. I too thought there were many red flags. All his answers to questions I would ask him were really short. He started telling me he loved me which is just plain creepy. I was away on vacation and 2 days before I was due to be back home he sent a message saying he got a contract in the UK and would be leaving that evening. That he would gone for 2 weeks and then was going to come back to be with me. Which is even creepier. Says he lives in Seattle and I live in Tacoma which is only about 30 min away.

RUN!!! I basically ended up just sending him an email saying i knew he was a Nigerian scam artist and he will never get money from me…never heard from him again!! Did he send you pictures? I wonder if they were the same pictures that i got! lol

I wish i would’ve kept my pictures now! He had a cowboy hat in the pic he sent to me too! Did he have dark hair with a “soul patch” (just a patch of hair beneath his lip)?

    • Connie says:

Yes exactly!! Dark hair with a soul patch. Kind of bigger arms with a tattoo on one. He said it was a blue flame it looked more like a fish or something though. I could’t say for sure though since it wasn’t fully visable in the pic. He also said he was half American and half Brit. Crazy this is the first person I have ever talked to off a dating site and I end up talking to a scammer.

      • Heidi R says:

yep!!!! ha ha ha! That was TOTALLY him! Same tattoo, all i could make out was it was blue! Too funny. Yep, i looked up the name and email address and within seconds found out he was a scam artist. Are you still emailing him?

      • Connie says:

No. The last message I got from him was that he was leaving for the UK thats when I really got suspicious and started looking for info on him. I already had questions before but thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt to tell me his story in person. Well that obvioulsy is NOT going to happen.

The sad thing is that those pictures are NOT of him. They were just stolen from FB or one of those sites. That can happen to any of us! So crazy! Did he say his name was David?

  5. Heidi R says:

THIS is AMAZING! yep, that is him!!! ha ha ha! TOO funny! I bet he created that profile just to lure the women in that he is involved with! So crazy!!!

Funny I got “cat fished” by a David Scott but he really was who he said he was, he just lied about his wife being dead. So I’m not sure if one considers that a catfish or just a big douchebag.
